Child Protection - What is it all about?

If a social worker needs to visit you or your family you may be puzzled by what we do. This will help to explain some of the things we may say. The most important thing to remember in all of this is that you have done nothing wrong by telling us what has happened to you.

What is an enquiry?

This happens when someone is worried about you and we want to make sure you are ok. Sometimes grown ups and other young people hurt children and do things you are not comfortable with. This shouldn't happen - if it happens to you, we're here to help you and to find out what's going on.

Social Workers - Who are we?

Social Workers - our job is to listen to children and young people and for you to be able to tell us what may be worrying you. We sometimes work with the police and we may want to ask you some questions and for you to tell us what you think should happen.

What happens next?

We talk to other people, like your family and try to find out what has happened and why. Sometimes that is all that will happen. Some families may need some help and sometimes there may need to be a meeting to decide what happens and that is called a Child Protection Conference.
